What a way to end this great 10 year saga!  J.K. Rowling’s last installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, just garnered a whopping $475.6 million worth of ticket sales worldwide for its opening weekend.  Out of this almost half a billion worth of gross sales, $168M is earned from United States and the rest are shared by Japan, France, United Kingdom, and Australia.  The part two of the Deathly Hallows is already breaking a lot of box office records including its Harry Potter movie predecessors and also Pirates of the Carribean and Batman ticket sales.  Not only is Harry Potter The Deathly Hallows 2 breaking US and UK box office records, it is also breaking box office records in almost every country it is being shown in.  In Japan, HP Deathly Hallows 2 reached $5.7M on its opening day.  Some of the other countries that the HP Deathly Hallows 2 movie is dominating are Brazil, Spain, Poland, Finland, Mexico, and Australia to mention a few.  This opening weekend debut still doesn’t include sales from China as the movie is going to open next month, August 4.  The movie is also expected to eclipse the third and final installment of the Transformers franchise’s, The Dark of Moon, gross ticket sales of about $760M worldwide.

In addition of breaking box office records, HP Deathly Hallows 2 is also breaking box office records in IMAX theaters.  This eight Harry Potter installment was also released with a 3D version and it broke the record of HP Deathly Hallows 1.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 is the third movie to be anticipated to reach the $1 billion gross ticket sales mark worldwide.  The other two are Pirates of the Carribean and Transformers.

The Harry Potter franchise will definitely be missed by its millions of fans around the world.  This movie definitely will be remembered the same way the past generation saw the Star Wars franchise.  J.K. Rowling must be thanked for sharing with the entire world her fantastic stories about a young boy who lived despite the attempts of evil to rule over good.  Hopefully, another book / movie franchise will be created in the next decade that will be the same or even greater than the achievements of Harry Potter.

Congratulations to the entire ensemble of the movie most especially to Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.  They are sure to reap a lot of millions out of this franchise even until they are old and gray.
